Mazatlán, México. May 6, 2019 – El Cid Resorts & El Cid Vacations Club, a proud sponsors of the City Nature Challenge 2019, is pleased to join the announcement that Mazatlán has been entitled as the city with the most biodiversity in México, with this winning the first place nationally and ranking on the top 10 internationally.
This competition was held on April 26-29, 2019 and consisted of three different categories: most observations of nature, find the most species and engage the most people. In this edition, 56 Mexican cities and 191 other cities around the world participated.

The competition consisted of nearly 500 participants in the Mazatlán area going outside to experience nature and to document the surrounding environment by taking photos and uploading them on the iNaturalit App, where experts were able to identify each and every specie photographed.
It is important to mention that this is the first time that Mazatlán has participated in this worldwide event, where undoubtedly it has positioned the destination as one of the most diverse cities in the country, offering beautiful natural attractions like the three islands, its beautiful beaches, the lighthouse, it charming towns and more.
In the past few years, ecotourism has had a huge boom due to the new tourist trends looking for destinations and resorts that are committed to sustainability and ecological matters.
With this distinction, Mazatlán has become a more attractive beach destination for those looking to have greener vacation and new experiences along with hotels like El Cid, that have been recognized with important distinctions in sustainability like the GreenLeaders certification by TripAdvisor, due to its endemic flora and fauna in all its hotels and golf courses for implementing environmental programs for all its areas.
